They said today would be one of those days in your life where you will always remember where you were when it happened...the inauguration of our 44th president, the first African American president in our country's history. My two little ones are two little to remember, so I'll record it for them. Mae, you were home sick from preschool, running a fever of 102 but feeling fine otherwise. Nate you were taking naps, drinking milk, eating baby cereal and putting everything you could find in your mouth to ease the pain from your teeth making their way out. I was at home taking care of the both of you. It seemed that during the hour we were watching the news there was a lot of scripture being recited, prayers being offered and God was being mentioned by everyone who took the podium. When the Bible was being carried out (the Bible in which one hand would be placed while taking oath of office) I pointed it out to Mae. This led into a song, "The B-I-B-L-E..." We prayed along with Rick Warren who led the invocation, and I added a few lines myself. I'm more nervous than excited about what is going to happen with this change of power. I was pondering these things (and grilling cheese sandwiches, mixing a bowl of baby cereal and buckling babies into high chairs for lunch)and searching for comfort and peace that everything will indeed turn out for good. While all this was going on, Mae blurted out her memory verse from Pioneer Club(our Wednesday night children's program at church) taking me by surprise she said, "God's words are true!" She even added the sign language gestures to the words that she had learned a few weeks ago. I agreed with her aloud that God's words are indeed true and that's why we can be happy today! God's words say that, "...we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." The Bible also tells us that "I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" I prayed this scripture for my children today. As we stare into such an unknown future, there is one thing we do know for sure. We know (and imagine this coming out of the mouth of a two year old)that "God's wurds awe twue."
